A great place to see the untouched landscapes of the lowcountry is to visit Pinckney Island . Located between Hilton Head Island and the mainland, Pinckney Island offers a day of exploring. Hike over 14 miles of nature trails or bike to the tip of the island and back. On Pinckney Island , you’ll find soaring pine forests, fresh water ponds, salt marshes and tidal hammocks. This island offers more wildlife than you will find anywhere else in the area. You’ll likely see a variety of birds including the Southern Bald Eagle, deer, turtles, and alligators to name a few. As you walk or cycle along, look for the information signs describing the area and the wildlife you may encounter. Definitely worth the trip. The Coastal Discovery Museum (843-689-6767 X223) even offers guided tours.
