Happy Trails

A great place to see the untouched landscapes of the lowcountry is to visit Pinckney Island. Located between Hilton Head Island and the mainland, Pinckney Island offers a day of exploring. Hike over 14 miles of nature trails or bike to the tip of the island and back. On Pinckney Island, you’ll find soaring pine forests, fresh water ponds, salt marshes and tidal hammocks. This island offers more wildlife than you will find anywhere else in the area. You’ll likely see a variety of birds including the Southern Bald Eagle, deer, turtles, and alligators to name a few. As you walk or cycle along, look for the information signs describing the area and the wildlife you may encounter.  Definitely worth the trip. The Coastal Discovery Museum (843-689-6767 X223) even offers guided tours.
